I had never heard of Toolbox Pilates Events & Art Gallery when Banks told me where the wedding would be. “Near Dupont Circle! It’s so cool! It’s also a pilates studio!” Skeptical at first, I became a believer on our walk-through a week before the big day.
Toolbox is simultaneously industrial, intimate, minimalist and inviting. Without being too hip, it is malleable and will work with many personal styles. Toolbox is off the beaten path, literally, and its front door is accessible only by alleyway. A true D.C. hidden gem. Beautiful petit fours by Well Dunn Catering and lovely arrangements (and bouquets!) from Nubia Fasil of Convention Floral provided just the right extra touches for Banks and Kim’s glorious fall wedding.
Let no one wonder if #loveislove — Spoiler alert: it is.
Banks and I met each other through a friend of a friend for a totally unrelated photo discussion. At the end of that meeting she told me she was getting married later in the year, and said, “I think I want you to photograph it.” I met Kim a few days later when I went to their place to show them both my portfolio, and we all agreed that fate had taken over. They are the yin to the other’s yang–communicating by eye contact, gesture and side-splitting laughter. I am crazy about them both, and they are as supportive and encouraging as they are ambitious and joyful. They are, to quote Banks’ mother’s toast, “Good company.”
If you’re getting married, please contact me so we can discuss how I can photograph your celebration!
